Weekly Report/ Part 6

Recommendations

One would say that this week the city had a different vibe. It was a little more romantic, more festive, and seemed to spread optimism around the world. Between bars of chocolate, flowers and lovers’ gazes, TEDxAUTH took to the streets of the city and is presenting them to you different than ever before!

Are you ready?

Reading: “Lost in the Spanish Quarter” - Heddi Goodrich

The book tells the story of Heddi, an American linguistics student studying in Naples and living in the Spanish Quarter, and of Pietro, a geology student from a rural family who feels an unbreakable bond to his homeland.

A love story with a double meaning- love for the city and a passionate love affair- and the story of two people who are ready to be exposed, to learn and even to get hurt.

As long as they live.

Entertaining: Gorilla Bar (Veroias 3, Thessaloniki)

Perhaps the hang-out spot of the TEDxAUTH team all these years, Gorillas is here to fill your nights and give you a sense of something familiar and beloved.

At Veroias Street, one of the busiest streets of the city, you will always find someone trying to get a table at the bar. Don’t let the long line intimidate you and don’t give up when you see it! It’s worth the wait to try their signature cocktails!

Oh, and to have your photo taken at the photo booth upstairs. I wonder how many people have decorated their walls with these pictures.

Proposing: Kourmpeti (Lykourgou 6, Thessaloniki)

A personal favorite, there is no way it wouldn’t be included in the list of the most romantic week of the year. You may ask, is there something romantic about food? Of course! Because this particular food is what you call romance!

Flavors from Crete paired with the most delicious ingredients that cannot leave anyone unimpressed: different salad options, potato salads, small Cretan pies with cheese, chicken dishes… I will stop here because words are not enough to describe what you will taste there.

So, hurry up and make your reservation- because it is always full- and don’t forget to accompany everything you eat with traditional raki!

Overcoming: Fears

Tonia Sotiropoulou was one of our speakers for TEDxAUTH 2022, with the theme “IRIS”.

Since we are getting closer and closer to this year’s events and before we reveal what you will see this year, we remember Tonia’s talk about fears.

If you haven’t seen it yet, we strongly suggest that this will be the new thing you do today!

Realizing: “You don’t need an excuse to express your love.”

Valentine’s Day brings our feelings to the surface. Perhaps because it is “dictated” by the occasion, or because everyone around us expresses how they feel, gifts, flowers, and many declarations of love hold a special place.

In a world that makes us show what we feel only once a year, we respond with a question: “why would you need an excuse for all this?”

So, pick up your phone, open your text messages, go to your loved one, and, just like that, for no reason, remind them what they mean to you. When everyone else stays silent, you shout what you feel!

Even if you are certain they know! After all, it’s “sweet to be loved and told…” (as the song by Haris Alexiou says.)

Travelling: Pelion

We combine summer and winter together and recommend you the best destination. Whether you want to put on your swimsuit or your scarf, in Pelion you will always find something to do! Walking around its scenic villages, eating food at its beautiful taverns, swimming at its gorgeous unorganized beaches.

Pelion is a destination that you will never get bored of. So, whether you want to go with your friends, your loved one, or your family, pack your backpack and your good mood and let nature in all its forms cleanse your thoughts and feelings!

Come on, then! Eat your chocolate- which you’ll surely have left over from the 14 of the month- and get out of your house to find and try everything we’ve suggested! You will love them as much as we did!
